Get your cameras ready, because this Saturday you’re going to see some very cute 4 legged leprechauns (and most likely some fun 2 legged ones as well) in the Wane Kelly Top Dog parade here in downtown Chelan.
The parade begins at noon, but people will be lining up about 45 min prior. If you’d like to walk in the parade, line up behind the Wells Fargo Bank. This is a great fun way to show off your Irish pride….dress up your pooch, your littles or even yourself and enjoy the fun.
An award will be given out for the “Top Dog” of the day.
The first St. Patricks day dog parade took place back in 1987. It was somewhat impromptuly organized by some of the staff at the Chelan Hospital. In 1992 the parade was renamed in honor of long time resident Wayne Kelley.
Over the years, the parade hasn’t been limited to dogs though, in the past there have been pigs, llamas, goats…even Elvis visited one year! It’s a great event, with lots of smiles and excitement in the air.
Other events on the 14th
The Shamrock Shuffle
Preceding the Parade will be the Shamrock Shuffle, a 5k walk/run race benefiting student scholarships for the Lions Diabetic Camps of Washington.
Registration begins at Riverwalk Park at 8:30 and the race will begin at 9:30.
Spring Brewfest
And what would a St. Paddy’s day celebration be without an ale (or 2). After the parade, head over to Campbells Resort to enjoy a sampling of ales & whiskies at their Spring Brewfest.
